Antigua, Guatemala

It is the end of the semester and we had a couple of talks about the trip to Antigua, Guatemala scheduled for the Spring break.
Like many others, I am thinking about how nice would be to go there. Consider the level of Spanish I know I am fully aware that will be hard to navigate in Spanish speaking country with the population that speaks Spanish and also 21 Mayan languages as well as 2 non-Mayan Amerindian languages.

I was astonished to find that there are 22 ways to say ‘I love you’ in Mayan.
Here is a linguistic map on just one country - Guatemala

One place I think we should go extra in Guatemala  is Tikal - Maya ceremonial center

Tikal is the largest excavated site in the American continent and contains some of the most fascinating archaeological remains of the ancient Maya civilization.
It is Guatemala's most famous cultural and natural preserve and was declared a national park in 1955 and a World Heritage site by Unesco in 1979

Faculty lead trips

It is not hard to figure out that the Faculty lead study abroad form is the most comfortable for the students.
Faculty members organize and assure the trip details and as a student, you just have to pay the necessary for the trip
In return receive - the so much wanted "Credit hours" because during this trip you are spending time in classrooms. In this case of Guatemala, you study Spanish tailored to your request. Some people request shopping at the big open market to learn routine conversations right where they happen

Guatemala is most known for its Markets! As a matter of fact, the largest artisan market in all of Central America, Chichicastenango, is located in Guatemala

it is very easy to get distracted and lost when you are new to foreign country adventure.
In the Faculty-led trip option, the students are helped by the teacher leading the group for any problems they may encounter.

Just a few of the learning adventure on this trip is Marshmallows rousted on the volcano heat, The Chocolate museum visit where they will create chocolate from the base ingredients and a day at the beach.

I talked to my professor for the possibility of my family to join. He outlined for me the whole plan. EIU is a university is a top value.

Now I need to talk to my family

Is this is possible to come to my life?

Study abroad

Currently, I am a student at EIU. This blog will follow my summer of 2019, at my trip to Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain. This is my little contribution to all students that are considering going to study abroad and not sure how. This blog contains helpful notes to all travelers from the US and other western countries

It is the beginning of the school year. In the language department heart talking about "Study abroad". In the language lab, where is usually I go to study for my Spanish class I hear people get enthusiastic about spending a week with their professors in other countries during Easter break.

The current one is for Guatemala. The trip is to be lead by two of the professors, that have been doing this for years.
